Music for Seniors, Executive Director, United States
Sarah Martin McConnell, MSSW, is the founder and executive director of Music for Seniors, a nonprofit arts organization in Nashville, TN. As an independent musician, singer and songwriter, Sarah has performed across the U.S. as soloist and as lead vocalist with various jazz and pop bands. She has garnered national credits as a commercial on-camera and voice actor, and in the studio as a songwriter and vocalist. Social work led her to serve as program director for Magdalene, a nonprofit providing residential, counseling, and case management services for women in recovery.
Combining her passions for music, performing and the helping professions, Sarah launched Music for Seniors in 2007 after her mother, then 84 and newly diagnosed with mid-stage Alzheimer’s, was blown to Nashville by Hurricane Katrina. Inspired by the music sessions she led for her mother’s adult day group, Sarah developed the interactive Music for Seniors model, designed to connect area musicians with underserved older adults for “sharing live music, lighting up lives!”
